The wonderful team at Wonderstruck Event Design invited us to provide lighting for a wedding reception in the Georgian Room at the Fairmont Olympic in downtown Seattle. While we have provided lighting for many weddings at the Fairmont, we’ve never had an opportunity to do lighting in the Georgian, so we were thrilled with the opportunity.
Chandeliers
The bride and groom specifically requested a silhouette effect for the 2 gorgeous chandeliers that hang in the Georgian. We chose to use 2 moving head fixtures for this effect to ensure proper focus, fit and color temperature. We felt this was a key detail since the room itself uses 23 different shades of butter cream, we didn’t want to ruin the warmth with a stark white spotlight. This would also give us the opportunity to add some vibrant colors when it came time for dancing.

Flowers
Both the bride and groom’s names begin with a “Q” so they had a large “Q” made out of flowers (shown above) to greet their guests as they entered the room. This was accompanied by beautiful arrangements for the table centerpieces. Since these were such integral elements we highlighted each one with warm white pin-spot detail lighting.

Spotlight
For the grand entrance, cake cutting and first dance we redirected the moving head lights to give a nice, warm wash to the dance floor to focus attention on the bride and groom. Additionally, this provided good lighting for friends and family members to take photos with their phones.
Gobo monogram
To personalize the room even further we projected a gobo monogram on the wall using custom artwork provided by the bride and groom.
Uplighting
To round things out, our good friend and DJ extraordinaire, Chris Graves, provided the uplights along with his mad emcee skills. We coordinated with Chris to keep things warm and elegant during dinner and then kicked it up a notch with lots of color for the dancing.
Here’s a quick lighting highlight video of this wonderful evening.
